Community Psychiatric Institute (CPI) is a private free standing non-profit agency providing outpatient behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment for adults for over 50 years. CPI is licensed by the New Jersey Department of Health and accredited by the Joint Commission.

The agency is located on a quiet residential street in East Orange, easily accessible from Route 280 and the Garden State Parkway and is one block away from public transportation.

Core Services

CPI provides treatment for adults in two distinct programs:

 

  • Partial Care mental health treatment program

  • Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient substance use disorder treatment programs

 

Both programs provide targeted services for clients with co-occurring disorders.

CPI’s mission is to provide evidenced based, person centered care to improve the quality of life for individuals with mental health and substance use disorders. Wellness comes in many forms and clients are empowered to choose their own individualized goals on their path to recovery, which may include obtaining desirable housing, seeking employment, making healthier lifestyle choices and achieving an overall greater sense of independence and control over their lives.

CPI’s vision is to maintain our uniqueness as a community agency and to be the local treatment of choice in an ever increasing world of healthcare conglomerates, while continuing to expand our array of affordable counseling, psychiatric and substance abuse treatment services that utilize evidenced-based practices.

Our Strengths

  • CPI has an established 52 year history in the treatment community

  • CPI is a fee for service agency that is financially stable without depending on grants or fundraising

  • Most of CPI’s management team has been employed between 5 and 32 years

  • All partial care counselors are master’s prepared and/or licensed

  • Two registered nurses are on-site daily during partial care hours

  • CPI provides individualized and comprehensive treatment to all clients and is especially adept at treating adults with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders

  • Treatment at CPI is provided in a safe and clean environment with safety monitors doing daily rounds and full-time on-site custodial staff

  • Joint Commission accreditation signifies that CPI has met nationwide standards for treatment

Program Features

Easy Access to Services

 

  • CPI accepts self-referrals, referrals from family and friends and referrals from other providers and entities

  • Intake appointments are scheduled within 72 hours of a referral made to the agency

  • The facility is handicapped accessible

  • Completely renovated in 2009, CPI's programs are housed in a modern & spacious 21,000 sq. ft. facility
     

Paying for Treatment

 

  • CPI is an approved Medicaid provider which pays 100% of the costs of treatment

  • CPI is approved to accept funding from Recovery Court (formerly Drug Court), the State Parole Board (MAP), the New Jersey Statewide Initiative (NJSI) and the Substance Abuse Initiative (SAI)

  • CPI works with select Commercial Insurance Plans

  • CPI has a sliding fee scale and attempts to accommodate clients who wish to pay with cash

Both programs offer specialty services for clients who have both a mental health disorder and a substance use disorder.
